Trade Compliance Specialist
Job Description Summary
The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all ongoing export and import regulatory requirements are met for Canada and the United States, and for ensuring the integrity and completeness of trade compliance data. The Trade Compliance Specialist will also actively contribute to building a scale-able and sustainable STEMCELL Trade Compliance Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Day-to-day liaison with Custom Brokers and other external partners to resolve clearance and other issues.
Day-to-day trade compliance support to Sales, Customer Service, Distribution and Purchasing.
Generates trade compliance documentation as needed, including certificates or origin, declarations, and permit supporting documentation.
Trade data determinations including country of origin, free trade agreement qualification, and tariff codes across all STEMCELL jurisdictions, and any other data required to perform import and export activities.
Trade compliance data maintenance and record keeping, including ensuring completeness and correctness of data, and assisting with the development and implementation of systems and processes to manage and maintain data.
Assisting in researching, understanding and communicating trade compliance regulations and standards throughout the organization to ensure products and processes comply with required dynamic export / import requirements.
Working in conjunction with Quality Control, assisting to obtain permits and meet permit requirements to meet global agencies’ requirements (FDA / USDA / CFIA / BICON etc). Coordinate and monitor the renewal of permit applications.
Identifies and recommends continuous improvement initiatives and participates in continuous improvement related to the Trade Compliance Program.
Conducts periodic export / import self-assessments (compliance audits) and implements any necessary corrective and preventative actions.
Comply with the Company's quality system to the requirements of ISO 13485.
Post-secondary education, preferably in supply chain/logistics, and/or international trade and compliance disciplines
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a trade compliance or similar role.
Understanding of U.S. and Canada import and export regulations and requirements.
Strong organizational, writing, time management, communication and relationship building skills are essential.
Computer skills, ideally with SAP.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, effectively contribute to cross department collaboration and communications.
Ability to contribute to continuous improvement of processes.
