Senior Process Development Scientist, Nanoparticles
Job Description Summary
The Senior Process Development Scientist, Nanoparticles will be a part of the Process Development Particles team and lead projects to successfully design and transfer of magnetic nanoparticle manufacturing processes from laboratory to production. Primary responsibilities include identifying potential process improvements, identifying and resolving barriers to scale-up, designing and executing studies to support scientific and engineering efforts, and characterization of products and intermediates. Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting the design and technology transfer of pilot or production scale nanoparticle manufacturing processes.
Planning, designing, executing, interpreting, and reporting results for complex experimental studies and guiding the team on the purpose, methodology and deductions from the studies.
Leading the design of experiments to efficiently identify key product attributes and process parameters that define product performance.
Supervising and mentoring of junior team members, overseeing the team’s safety, lab work, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Collate and author technical documents such as development reports, SOPs, batch records, GMP verification and validation protocols.
Summarize findings and present technical data to technical and non-technical audiences.
Position requires a degree in inorganic or organic chemistry, materials chemistry or a related field - Ph.D. degree with 3 years or MSc with + 5-7 years or BSc + 10 years of relevant experience.
Hands-on experience in developing inorganic nanoparticle technology and scaling up nanoparticles.
Minimum of five years hands-on in inorganic nanoparticle synthesis coupled with one or more of the following areas: core-shell nanoparticles chemistry, surface characterization and surface functionalization, bioconjugation, polymer chemistry, functional materials, and the associated analytical techniques.
Strong analytical background including experience with BET surface area, surface characterization techniques based on titration methods, TEM, DLS, Zeta Potential, and optical microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.
Experience in synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles using precipitation and/or sol-gel routes (e.g. Iron Oxide, TiO2, SiO2, gold, silver, copper, platinum).
Good communicator with the ability to articulate and rationalize - will be responsible for brainstorming new ideas and pitching concepts.
Multi-task: handle diverse projects simultaneously.
Rapidly learn new techniques and approaches.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience with design and/or execution of DOEs is an asset.
Experience with aseptic processing and/or working terminal sterilization technologies is an asset.
Experience with adherence to ISO and GMP quality systems is an asset.
