Job Description Summary

The Senior Manager, Nanoparticle Engineer will lead a team responsible for the design and optimization of new and existing manufacturing processes and will act as a Process Development lead in corporate project teams. A collaborative mindset along with significant experience in process scale-up in a relevant industrial setting is required.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, optimization, technology transfer and implementation of manufacturing processes and scale-up manufacture for the production of particles

  • Collaborate with Research & Development and Quality to define critical quality attributes and critical process parameters necessary to set meaningful product specifications

  • Integrate engineering theory with the results of experiments, physical testing and numerical modeling to select well characterized equipment and implement standardized processes

  • Review and optimize processes and process controls for existing products to improve process yields and reduce costs while maintaining product quality

  • Communicate effectively with Research and Development, Manufacturing, Analytical Development and Quality to enhance cross-functional collaboration and support successful project execution

  • Work with the Manufacturing team to streamline new process implementation, including documentation, training and technical know-how

  • Oversee root cause investigations and recommend corrective and/or preventative actions for process-related non-conformances

  • Provide strategic input and direction for corporate capital projects

  • Train and mentor junior staff


  • PhD with 8+ years of industrial experience or BSc/MSc Engineering degree with 12+  years of industrial experience

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with chemical synthesis, process scale-up, process improvements and optimization

  • History of working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex objectives under aggressive timelines

  • Expertise in experimental design, complex data analysis and interpretation

  • Hands-on experience running lab and pilot scale experiments and equipment

  • Strong understanding of analytical techniques used for particle characterization

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to effectively multi-task and deal with changing priorities

  • Management/supervisory experience

  • Project management experience is an asset

  • Exposure to ISO 13485 quality management system and cGMPs is an asset
