Job Description Summary
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is program design focused, with the implementation of larger projects taking place. Able to problem-solve more independently. Is responsible for researching, developing, implementing, and enforcing the organization's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures and training. The primary objective is to create a workplace that is safe and healthy for employees and the environment while adhering to safety legislation.Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead employees, managers, and contractors in the interpretation and application of internal and regional health and safety regulations
Identify non-compliant or incomplete EHS procedures
Ensure documentation is completed to support company due diligence in ensuring the safety of employees
Support and provide guidance on safety inspections
Develop and deliver health and safety training for employees as required
Write EHS policies, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and work instructions to meet EHS legislative requirements
Collaborate with the EHS team to monitor safety compliance and identify safety issues
Assist in the investigation of hazard and incident reports to provide recommendations to address safety concerns
Provide advice/make recommendations to management on health and safety issues and compliance
Proactively identify risks and work with management and employees on preventative actions
Works independently with limited supervision and collaborates with others on key initiatives/ projects.
Qualifications
Occupational Health & Safety diploma/degree and/or a degree in a relevant field (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, etc.)
10+ years of relevant work experience
Ability to research and draft global policies and training programs
Effectively manage/ lead projects and initiatives
Adept at time management
Strong communications skills
Strong problem solving skills
Ability to organize and prioritize work
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Excellent customer service
