As a Research Technologist, you’ll be designing, synthesizing, modifying, and characterizing biosynthetic polymers in order to optimize novel products. Working collaboratively with the Chemistry team in the Research and Development Department, you will perform experiments, interpret data, and provide regular reports on your results. This position is perfect for recent BSc graduates who are starting their career and want to continue honing their laboratory skills and develop as researchers contributing to innovative science around the globe.
Duties and Responsibilities
Routinely review, understand, and replicate published chemical synthesis protocols
Effectively synthesize and characterize compounds, and participate in development of new assays
Troubleshoot standard experiments, perform chemical analytical techniques, and analyze and interpret generated data
Keep accurate and detailed records of lab procedures and results
Help with lab operations (e.g. maintaining lab supplies) to ensure a safe and functional lab environment
Knowledge and Qualifications
BSc in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or a related degree with a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience performing laboratory experiments (i.e. academic, industry and/or co-op lab experience)
Working knowledge of organic compound and/or polymer synthesis and characterization is required (e.g. column chromatography, liquid-liquid extraction)
Experience with chemically modifying surfaces, and/or chemical characterization techniques (e.g. NMR, FITR) is highly valuable
Familiarity with Mass spectrometry, HPLC, UV-Vis Spectroscopy is desirable
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) both in one-on-one and group settings
