Job Description Summary
The Process Chemist, Nanoparticles will assist the Process Development team in designing magnetic nanoparticle manufacturing processes at various scales from laboratory to production. Primary responsibilities include identifying potential process improvements, designing and executing studies to support engineering efforts, and characterizing process products and intermediates.

Duties and Responsibilities
Synthesize and modify particles that lie at the interface of chemistry, biochemistry and physics
Study reaction parameters (eg. kinetics) at small scale and map results to pilot systems
Inform process design by relating engineering phenomena (eg. heat transfer, shear, pressure) to potential impact on product quality
Identify and optimize key chemical process parameters to understand product attributes
Independently design and execute experiments to support the continuous improvement of STEMCELL’s processes
Operate pilot scale equipment such as reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, and filtration systems, at times in an aseptic environment
Draft technical documents such as SOPs, batch records, validation protocols and development reports
Summarize findings and present technical data to non-technical audiences
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in organic chemistry, materials chemistry or a related field
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: organic synthesis, bioconjugation, polymer chemistry, surface modification, functional materials, and the associated analytical techniques
Experience with process scale-up and tech transfer activities is an asset
Experience with nanoparticle synthesis, characterization, functionalization, and purification is an asset.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with design and/or execution of DOEs is an asset
Experience with aseptic processing and/or working in a GMP environment is an asset
An ability to summarize and communicate technical detail to non-technical audiences
