STEMCELL Technologies Inc. and the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (UBC and St. Paul’s Hospital) are working together on a grant-sponsored postdoctoral award opportunity and looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to fulfill a fixed term 2-year fellowship. Through this collaborative initiative, you will develop improved model systems for assessing the in vitro efficacy of modulator therapies in cystic fibrosis (CF).

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize improved cell culture models, as well as fully create detailed protocols and methodologies 

• Full responsibility for the assigned project including project planning, experimental design, experimental execution, data analysis and interpretation, reporting, and presenting

• Independently identify areas of improvement, as well as troubleshoot and resolve complex scientific and technical investigations

• Present data at team and department data meetings, provide conclusions, and future plans

• Perform literature reviews to discuss the relevance of the product design in order to apply experimental strategies and troubleshooting

Knowledge and Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge, skills, and expertise equivalent to a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or relevant life sciences field

• Expertise with primary 2D epithelial cell culture and flow cytometry required

• Extensive knowledge in lung cell biology, with experience in lung cell culture and/or 3D airway culture models is preferred

• Proficient in independent experimental design, experimental execution, and analyzing data, with experience conducting high throughput drug assays, immunostaining, and qPCR highly desirable 

• Excellent communication skills both in one-on-one and group settings, and an organized and proactive mindset are a must
