Job Description Summary
STEMCELL Technologies Inc. and the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (UBC and St. Paul’s Hospital) are working together on a grant-sponsored postdoctoral award opportunity and looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to fulfill a fixed term 2-year fellowship. Through this collaborative initiative, you will develop improved model systems for assessing the in vitro efficacy of modulator therapies in cystic fibrosis (CF).Join our team of ‘Scientists Helping Scientists’ and drive the development of novel products and technologies and work with other highly motivated colleagues in a science-oriented, creative and dynamic environment. After the completion of this collaborative initiative, there are long-term career opportunities to retain talented individuals within STEMCELL to support other projects based on business needs.
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and optimize improved cell culture models, as well as fully create detailed protocols and methodologies
Full responsibility for the assigned project including project planning, experimental design, experimental execution, data analysis and interpretation, reporting, and presenting
Independently identify areas of improvement, as well as troubleshoot and resolve complex scientific and technical investigations
Present data at team and department data meetings, provide conclusions, and future plans
Perform literature reviews to discuss the relevance of the product design in order to apply experimental strategies and troubleshooting
Knowledge and Qualifications
In-depth knowledge, skills, and expertise equivalent to a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or relevant life sciences field
Expertise with primary 2D epithelial cell culture and flow cytometry required
Extensive knowledge in lung cell biology, with experience in lung cell culture and/or 3D airway culture models is preferred
Proficient in independent experimental design, experimental execution, and analyzing data, with experience conducting high throughput drug assays, immunostaining, and qPCR highly desirable
Excellent communication skills both in one-on-one and group settings, and an organized and proactive mindset are a must
