Manager, Brand and Corporate Marketing

Job Description Summary

The Manager, Brand and Corporate Marketing, uses effective marketing strategies to promote awareness of STEMCELL's brand, services, and culture by highlighting the ways in which we help scientists advance science. This includes translating corporate brand strategy into engaging marketing messages and tactics to attract new business and lay the foundation for lasting customer relationships. The Manager, Brand and Corporate Marketing uses marketing best practices for creating and distributing engaging content, targeting customer segments, analyzing key metrics and exploring novel communication approaches. This is a highly collaborative role requiring effective senior stakeholder engagement and close and productive partnership with colleagues in the Scientific Communications, Scientific Marketing, Creative Services, E-commerce and Digital Marketing, Marketing Operations, Human Resources and Corporate Affairs teams teams.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Associate Director, Scientific Communications and the Scientific Marketing team to understand brand identity, value proposition, customer profiles and the competitive landscape in order to develop effective marketing communications strategies to support the achievement of departmental and corporate goals. 

  • Translates marketing communications strategy into messaging and content strategy, including developing region-specific approaches in consultation with International Marketing and Sales teams.

  • Works collaboratively across the Scientific Marketing team to ensure the integration of relevant products and services into campaign messaging and tactics as appropriate. 

  • Presents marketing campaign proposals to cross-functional team members and stakeholders for review, incorporating revisions based on feedback. 

  • Submits proposals for the annual marketing budget for campaigns and conferences; actively monitors budgets. 

  • Generates high-quality marketing collateral to support lead-generation and nurturing, including developing key messaging, generating draft copy, managing the review and approval process, and distributing approved collateral internally and externally through appropriate channels. 

  • Creates, maintains and enhances company and brand marketing collateral, including website content, social media content, brochures, videos, web and print advertisements, sales tools, tradeshow booth graphics, and other promotional materials. 

  • Works collaboratively with the International Marketing Team to execute regional marketing strategies: identifies region-specific advertising, marketing opportunities and conferences to align with target markets and positioning.   

  • Supports Sales by acting as point-person for questions and input regarding brand marketing campaigns and collateral, and developing corporate tools to meet Sales’ needs; may deliver new campaign training to Sales and/or participate in Sales Strategy Sessions. 

  • Supports Human Resources by developing corporate branding messaging and initiatives that aid recruitment efforts and strengthen internal culture.

  • May attend conferences as an exhibitor or brand ambassador; coordinates booth set-up and activities, gathers market and competitive intelligence, and leverages opportunities for content generation, such as customer interviews.  

  • Tracks, reviews and reports progress and results of marketing campaigns and tactics with supervisor, Associate Director Scientific Communications and campaign project teams; modifies tactics with input from cross-functional teams as needed.

  • Ensures branding is maintained and that corporate brand and voice guidelines are followed; may contribute towards company-wide corporate branding strategy.

  • Reviews marketing collateral generated by others, providing feedback and coaching as required.

  • Works collaboratively in cross-functional project teams to lead the development and implementation of process-improvement projects on behalf of the Scientific Marketing team. 

  • Contributes towards the continuous improvement of training programs, department processes,  and materials for the Scientific Marketing group.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in a life sciences field plus 1-3 years of relevant marketing experience, or BSc plus 3-6 years of relevant marketing experience.

  • Experimental experience in a laboratory environment. 

  • Experience in a marketing or communications role, with a demonstrated ability to develop strong marketing strategies and translate strategies into tactical plans and effective marketing collateral. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of branding and corporate communications strategy.  

  • Self-motivated to deliver creative, high-quality materials to set deadlines.

  • Technical writing skills appropriate for scientific and marketing materials.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) both in one-on-one and in group settings.

  • Detail-oriented with proven ability to meticulously copy-edit materials is essential.

  • Strong independent and group project management and organizational skills, including enthusiasm for working as a part of a dynamic, fast-paced, results-oriented team.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to changing priorities.

  • Proactive in continual learning and skill development.
