Job Description Summary
Want to utilize your flow cytometry skills as an in-house technical subject matter expert and resource? As a Flow Cytometry Specialist within the Research & Development (R&D) department, you will be responsible for independently managing the flow cytometry facilities in the R&D lab for both internal and external clients. This position is integral for developing and administering STEMCELL’s comprehensive R&D lab skills training curriculum and will serve as a trainer for courses offered to lab staff.If you’re a detail oriented, highly organized individual who is curious, eager to troubleshoot experimental data, and build up our core facility team this may be the position for you!
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a dedicated in-house flow cytometry expert and resource, particularly for complex analysis, and provide technical assistance and guidance
Provide an operator-assisted FACS service to support R&D team projects and train frequent users to operate the sorter as well as host internal training and external seminars on flow cytometry
Generate and implement standard operating procedures and technical best practices, including standardized sample preparation, staining, analysis protocols and consult on design of flow cytometry panels
Run quality control assessments on lab instruments; maintain and undertake minor repairs as required, as well as manage service providers for repairs and regular preventative maintenance
Negotiate with suppliers for the purchase of flow cytometry instruments and service contracts, in consultation with Procurement
Knowledge and Qualifications:
PhD or MSc in Biology, Chemistry or related area, or BSc with at least 6+ years of relevant experience, with a minimum 4 years’ experience performing independent flow cytometry experiments
Relevant flow cytometry training certification and experience in GxP expectations (21 CFR part 11 compliance, documentation, audits, etc.) is preferred
Ability to apply analytical thinking to independently troubleshoot equipment and propose solutions
Training experience in small and large group settings and knowledge of effective training methods is highly desirable
Excellent communication (verbal, written and presentation) and interpersonal skills is an asset
