The Data Engineer is an expert in sourcing, cleansing, modelling, and content delivery to meet business needs. The role is a collaborative one with a focus on getting business users their data and allowing them flexibility to do their analysis as needed. As the organization grows, so will the role. This requires someone who is excellent problem solver, able to organize their work, be transparent, and a good communicator.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the IS department and business stakeholders to evaluate requests, clarify objectives and functional requirements for new or modified content; to determine feasibility, time requirements, and compatibility with current system capabilities; and to design, develop, and produce supporting artifacts.
  • Support data governance teams by communicating data models, technical opportunities, and constraints.

  • Develop data driven solutions which includes ETL pipelines, dimensional modelling, metadata management, data cleansing and conforming, and querying.

  • Work with a variety of BI tools to develop views on data including SAP Analytics Cloud, BusinessObjects WEBI and Lumiera.

  • Take on small projects fully and integrate into a team for larger projects.

  • Breakdown and plan work as part of larger planning processes.

  • Support the continuous improvement of the development life cycle including establish and enhance tools, utilization of code management, code reviews, test driven development, and deployment automation.

  • Promote and advance Agile and Devops approaches and culture.

  • Monitor ongoing performance of processes and develop updates and/or modifications according to business needs.

  • Collaborate with end users to provide production operation support.

  • Fully participate as a member of the data team, offer feedback on initiatives, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate on delivering the best IS solutions.

  • Assist the IS team with issues requiring technical expertise; provide off-hour support as required.

  • Constantly learning through experiences at hand and striving for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of Data Warehouse and/or reporting development experience.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience ideally in the following areas:

    • SQL development.

    • ETL and data pipeline development.

    • schema design approaches for Data Warehouse.

    • BI platforms with a preference for BusinessObjects.

    • Data Warehouse development with BW or BW4/HANA experience a preference.

  • SAP experience including CDS views is an asset.

  • Familiarity with an analytics platform an asset such as Tableau, PowerBI, or SAP Analytics Cloud.

  • Familiarity with AWS.

  • Strong passion for data driven solutions.

  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presenter) and interpersonal skills with proven experience building strong relationships with key business partners and team members.

  • Familiarity and experience with Agile software development approaches and supporting tools.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Track record of continued growth in skill and experience.

  • Large project  or business transformation experience.
