Scientific Support Associate
Job Description SummaryThe Scientific Support Associate is responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of the Scientific Support training laboratory, from the direction of the Laboratory Manager, to meet STEMCELLs Quality and Safety standards and regulations.
The Scientific Support Associate will independently and simultaneously maintain various mammalian cell cultures (iPSCs, organoids, and primary isolated cells) for the implementation of multiple training programs while maintaining accurate written records of laboratory procedures.
The Scientific Support Associate will use knowledge of STEMCELL’s procedures and protocols to help identify abnormal cultures, in collaboration with the Lab Manager or other Subject Matter Experts, and exercise troubleshooting skills to determine and correct the root cause of the problem.
They will assist or lead the administration of training programs, including preparing training booklets, ordering laboratory reagents, and organizing internal logistics for the delivery of training programs to customers and internal staff.
This role also greatly contributes to the company’s core vision of Scientists Helping Scientists™ by providing comprehensive educational services to staff, clients, and distributors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with departmental functional teams to manage the training laboratory which includes daily operations, equipment maintenance, reagent ordering and inventory, user safety, and security protocols in accordance with regulatory and quality compliance to ISO 9001:2015.
Ensure the efficient and safe day-to-day operations of the training laboratory according to the 5S principles.
Independently maintain various mammalian cell lines used to deliver training programs.
Provide training on Laboratory Housekeeping Best Practices.
Organize and implement logistics for internal and external training programs.
Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design, develop, and implement the frameworks for new training programs.
May assist Subject Matter Experts to revise and develop new instructional material and support training.
Participate in process optimization projects to improve training efficiency, effectiveness, and increase the visibility of scientific training services.
When required, assist with the coordination and administration of the scientific support programs and operations.
Maintain a high level of service and professionalism to all our customers.
Occasional weekend work (Saturday and/or Sunday) may be required.
Execute ad-hoc projects as determined by your direct manager.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of work experience or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 1-year work experience or a Ph.D. with no work experience in life sciences.
Experience with mammalian cell culture and troubleshooting is required.
Demonstrated understanding and/or experience with cell separation theory and techniques.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills are required.
Previous administrative work experience, especially in project management, is an asset.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
Ability to explain scientific and technical information to both experts and non-experts alike.
Demonstrated ability to meet short- and long-term project deadlines.
Strong time management and organization skills.
